Light and Mikami have never met in person before, thus the image of them shown standing back to back.

It is in Mikami's own assumption that his God, Kira, is righteous and leading him towards what he believes is good, aka judgement.

However, Light holds the power of the death note in his hands, pulling the strings from behind.

Thus the reason Mikami faces the light and Light (Raito) is enshrouded in the darkness.

The subtle light shining on Raito's face through the trees could also resemble the risk of his hidden identity as Kira being exposed.
